After my second day of actually being able to sleep in, it's official.....I'm bored. I got up today feeling pretty refreshed, took a shower and wondered what to do. I finally managed to drag myself out of my room and hopped on the subway bound for Itaewon, basically the only part of the city that I really know so far. I wondered around for a bit, looked at small trinkets and such, bought an English paper (a luxury due to the huge foreign populace in that part of the city) and decided I'm get a coffee. I sat drinking my 3 dollar coffee (another "luxury" of being in a foreigners everywhere area) and chatted with a few tourists that were in the area. I guess I must have looked seasoned, because they started asking me about parts of Seoul. You know....where's this, how do I get here kind of questions. Nah...I didn't fake it, but mearly begged them off with the truth...."uh...I've only been here for 2 weeks. I don't know my way around completely either" Nough said. I did make my first purchase today though. I already managed to lose the scarf I brought with me, so I set off to buy one of many I'd seen on the streets. After barely negotiating, of which I suck at, I walked away basically happy with my new fluffy black scarf for around 7 dollars. I'm sure I got ripped off, but at least I'll be warm. The woman who sold me it kept looking around furtively as if expecting to get caught ripping of little 'ol me. I just hate barganing though. I just wanted my scarf and to get on with things. I'm sure she got the better end of things. I got a few phone cards too and wondered back to the subway hoping to find a phone to call home, before heading back to my room. After spotting some phones, I caught the eye of a black man and asked him the time. I needed to figure the difference so as to not wake up mom and dad. Bad move.....talk about weird. What next ensued was around 45 min. of this Nigerian man starting out asking my nationality, religion and marital status and then basically trying to convince me to start a relationship with him maybe ending in marriage and me going to Nigeria. I just hate being a bitch to complete strangers though....even if they are wierd as hell. I put up with it for so long though and then brought up my boyfriend and kept interjecting with "but my bf wouldn't like me to start something new....blah blah blah." I know. Any other halfway sane person would have given the guy a "you're crazy look" and walked away. He finally got the message through that I wasn't interested in his offer and I made it into the subway.......
Remind me to be very careful the next time I ask anyone for the time.
